Bloomsburg Park

For this part of the project I went down the the Bloomsburg Park, that was recently underwater from the flood. When I went there I wasn't really sure what to expect. I went down to the park a lot last year and this time was very different from all the times I have been down there in the past. On the walk down to the park there was no one on the streets, they were empty. The only people I saw were workers working on repairing the side of a house. When I got down to the park the weird thing was that it was empty. Every time I have been down there in the past there were always a bunch of college students playing tennis or basketball. What I saw in the half an hour that I was there was extremely different from anything I have seen before. Walking up to the park I saw this pile of debris and these huge trucks driving all of it away. About after ten minutes finally two girls came to the park but they parked their car and started running up the street towards the town and did not run in the park. Five minutes later I saw a Red Cross Disaster Relief truck drive by and the whole feeling of the park has changed.

My question is where are all of the students that would normally be at the park? Did they find a different place to play basketball or other sports? I was expecting students to be down there helping out with the clean up, but I was surprised when there was no one there. I then started to wonder if it is like this in the rest of the town? As I was walking back the streets and the houses looked empty. I didn't really know how much this flood had an affect of the community. A lot of houses were for sale and others had piles of trash outside. That is when I started to realize that this is going to take a long time for the community to come back from. Many of the residents have lost everything and are moving out of the area. It is going to take a long time for this community to gain some sort of normal back.
